January 31, 2000"Elsinore Storm" is launching a three-year assault at the U.S. championship title in 4-way. The game plan is beginning right now with the first season of the three-year plan. Elsinore Storm will be sponsored by Elsinore Skydiving. The team has recently been looking for a fourth member after the Elsinore locals John Hamilton, Todd Hawkins and Allan Brooks founded this team earlier.Last week, former Frost member and Advanced Class gold medalist Robert "Robob" Healy was jumping with Storm, trying out for the open slot. Healy had been highly recommended by several insiders. Now, Elsinore Storm closed the team deal and will compete with the Floridian. Healy has already competed once this year at the season opener of the Florida Skydiving League. His team, the new Frost 2000, took the first place in the FSL rankings afer winning meet one. Frost will have to look for a replacement. |

Former Airspeed member John Hamilton, founder and godfather of Elsinore Storm, has been working on the Storm project for a while. Finally, he seems to have the right squad along with the best environment. The team is aiming at winning the U.S. Nationals in 2002 to qualify for the world championship in 2003. This year, they are planning to make up to 700 or even 800 training jumps prior to the nationals. This would most likely put Storm not too far behind the best teams in the country already in the first year. Elsinore Storm will also compete at the money meet in Eloy, all of the Southwest Skydiving League events and the nationals. January 26, 2000 The dive pool for the 2000 season has been announced by the IPC Formation Skydiving Subcommittee. The changes of the dive pool have been minimal, like never before in an off-year. The majority of teams and competitors will appreciate that. Only the random formation F mutated from "Spinner" into the "Twins". Block three received an additional arrow. The three-way piece can now turn either direction. The reasons for the current changes are again unknown. The NSL management has not heard of any complaints from teams and competitors regarding the existence of the Spinner (former random formation F) in the dive pool or of problems with the maneuever of block three.
However, the damage is very little this time. Teams do not have to forget techniques they just learned to master, or spend a lot of money to learn the new ones.
January 25, 2000 All signs are go for the former DeLand Genesis. Skydive DeLand, Performance Designs and the Relative Workshop have joined forces to create a professional environment for DeLand's home team, the former DeLand Genesis. Today is the last day that the NSL News will have used the name Genesis. In the future, Genesis will be "DeLand Performance Designs Blue".
With Blue going full-time, the top-notch competition in the United States will become even more exciting. The former weekend team will now have the chance to seriously challenge the other full-time teams in the country. The two Airspeed 4-ways, Elsinore Storm, FX and the Golden Knights seem to be the pro-competition this season. And Blue will have an excellent chance to bring the gold medal in 4-way back to DeLand where it used to be until Jack Jefferies moved from Florida to Arizona. The sponsoring group of Skydive DeLand, Performance Designs and the Relative Workshop are making this effort possible.
Ian Bellis, marketing manager at Performance Designs and team manager for the former Genesis is the godfather of the deal. He put the package together which includes many benefits for each party. A part of the package is also the second project team, DeLand Performance Designs Gold. Bellis himself, PD representative Edward "Bushman" Anderson, RWShop marketing manager Niklas Gummeson and Robert Chromy have formed the Gold team. This team will also compete at the same events with Blue, but will be spearheading the marketing and sales efforts out in the field at the same time. Blue will make over 1,000 training jumps until the nationals, Gold will probably make 300 or more. Both teams competed last Sunday at the season opener of the Florida Skydiving League.
The project is promising: Blue is young, hungry and committed, and they are already in full swing after almost 300 training jumps since the nationals. The teams on the west coast still seem to be in the forming phase and FX is still looking for a tail - only the Golden Knights Gold have been ready with Read more at the NSL's website.
January 24, 2000 Team Frost won the season opener of the Florida Skydiving League 2000. Ten teams competed at Skydive Sebastian and completed six rounds this past Sunday. DeLand PD Blue, former DeLand Genesis, finished with the highest raw average of 17.0. But after handicap, the top team placed only fifth due to their scoring history. DeLand PD Blue came into this meet with a 19.1 average, scored at the U.S. Nationals 1999. 17.0 at this meet was too far below the team's scoring history to beat other teams scoring above their previous team averages.
The new NSL handicap, invented by Optic Nerve member Dr. Joel Shugar, allows teams only to win if they perform above their average performance. Frost came into this meet with a 12.0 average and finished with 12.5 after six rounds. This was more than enough to leave all other teams far behind. 999 Advanced Class gold medalist Frost benefited from two personnel changes lowering the team average for the first season meet. Only Carlos Curti and Bob Healy of last year's Frost competed with the new Frost. Niklas Gummeson and Sally Hathaway were replaced by Tony Hathaway and Steven Johnson, lowering last year's Frost team average to 12.0. The new Frost members were skydiving very well, so Frost could walk away with the first ten league points. For the next FSL meet, the Frost average will go up a little bit and make it more challenging to repeat this success. The scores have been posted at the NSL's competition page.
